7.1 Risk & Safety

Questions for reflection:

1. Relate the following situations to the type of occupational risk (ergonomic, psychosocial, environmental, burnout risk)

Ana has finished her shift with a severe backache, at the first hour she was missing her mobilization partner and had to mobilize a patient by herself and without the possibility of using the crane, as it was occupied and they were in a hurry. During the mobilisation she did not adopt a proper posture (her knees were not bent enough and she did not maintain the right angle)

ERGONOMIC RISK

Lucy has been working at her town' s municipal residence for several weeks now. For organizational reasons, she has spent a lot of time with a patient she knew for years and who had been her neighbour. It has been two days since the patient died and Lucy feels very sad and questions her involvement in her work.

PSYCHOSOCIAL RISK

Ainara is a day centre worker. For the last two weeks, her colleagues have changed and she is not able to organize herself properly because the communication with them is not fluid. Ainara feels that she has lost her enthusiasm for work and she is not motivated by the interprofessional work.

PSYCHOSOCIAL RISK

John and Jorge have seen the centre's psychologist as they have been showing symptoms of tiredness and anxiety for several months. Due to the exceptional situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, they have had to double shift several times replacing sick colleagues. They have experienced extreme situations, like working without resources, a number of deaths, limited moments of rest, etc. Both have sleep disorders and difficulty in concentrating.

BURNOUT SINDROME

2. Think about each of the previous cases, possible ways of preventing and intervening in view of the risks presented.
