Law on Social Services and Social Assistance

Law on Social Services and Social Assistance establishes principles for the provision and receipt of social work, social care, social rehabilitation, social services and social assistance, the range of persons who have the right to receive these services and assistance, and also the principles for payment and financing of social care and social services.

Social care institutions and home care services have to operate according to this law. This law defines the roles and obligations of different institutions and professionals as well as names the types of social services and assistance provided by state and municipalities.

Regarding people with dementia there are two main groups of long term care services - care at home and institutional care. Decisions on granting social care services are made by municipal social services offices, based on evaluation of the person's level of functional disorders, resources and established level of care.
