4.3 - Use of the life story in practice

The refusal to shower is a common problem experienced by both staff and relatives. A general piece of advice  in this situation is to understand the person better. Read their life story and care plan, understand the person's habits and routines especially on personal hygiene. Organise your work based on what is written there in the care plan. You can also find out if the person is afraid of water or if he/she is shy about taking off their clothes. It may say something about the person's wishes to shower during certain time of the day. Greta's life story says that she wants to take a shower in the evening. It can be a useful clue to persuade her to shower then.  




Greta seems very upset when the staff puts on a pair of boots when helping Greta to get a shower. Her life story says that she is afraid of snakes and thunder. Is Greta seeing a connection between boots, snakes and thunder? The staff could therefore
