5. The Scottish Context

This section will be divided into two substantial parts:

a. Rights based approach to dementia

b. The Framework of legislation in Scotland


5a. Rights based approach to dementia

For the past decade, caring for those with dementia, supporting their carers and promoting the rights of those with dementia has been a priority of the Scottish Government.  The approach taken by the Scottish Government as been a Rights based approach.  Underpinning policy and practice is the idea that people with dementia and their carers (family and friends) have the same human rights as every other citizen in Scotland.
